How to Upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11
If you want to upgrade your Windows 10 device to Windows 11, you have two options: use Windows Update or perform a manual installation. Below, we explain both methods step by step.
Method 1: Upgrade via Windows Update
Step 1: Back up your files
Although the upgrade does not delete existing data, it’s recommended to back up important files to an external hard drive, USB drive, or Google Drive.
Step 2: Start the upgrade from Settings
- Locate the magnifying glass icon on the taskbar.

- Type “Update” and click the suggested option.

- If your device is compatible, you’ll see the option Download and install Windows 11.

- Click Download and install and follow the on-screen instructions.Your device will restart several times. Do not turn it off during the installation.
Method 2: Manual installation (if Windows Update doesn’t show the option)
Step 1: Back up your files
Although the upgrade does not delete existing data, it’s recommended to back up important files to an external hard drive, USB drive, or Google Drive.
Step 2: Check system compatibility
- Download and run the compatibility check tool from Microsoft’s official website.
- Accept the license terms and click Install.

- Once finished, click Finish, then Check Now.


- If your device meets the requirements, proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Download and run the Windows 11 installer
- Download the Windows 11 installer from Microsoft’s official site.
- Run the file and follow the instructions.

- When finished, click Restart now.

Note for PTGAS Staff
PTGAS staff do not have administrator rights on their work devices. They must request the upgrade via a CAU so that technical staff can assist them.

Note:The process may take over 1 hour and the device will restart several times. Do not turn off the PC during installation.
